The Anatomy of the Stomach & Digestive Process
The stomach (Gastro) is a hollow, pouch-like muscular organ composed of three distinct layers of nerve fibers arranged lengthwise, breadthwise, and diagonally.
The Digestive Mechanism: Food is broken down initially in the mouth, where chewing mixes it with saliva. Once it reaches the stomach, gastric juices transform it into a semi-liquid substance called chyme.
Nutrient Absorption: As chyme passes into the intestines, peristaltic (serpentine) muscular movements propel the food forward, allowing the intestinal lining to absorb vital nutrients into the bloodstream while directing waste to the large intestine for elimination.
The Theory of Internal Vapors (Bukhārat)
When digestion is compromised—whether by overeating, poor food sequencing, or weak digestive fire—unprocessed food stagnates. This stagnation generates internal vapors (Bukhārat), categorized into dry-hot and wet-hot types, which ascend upward through the body and trigger specific ailments:

Classical scholars established four primary dietary triggers that corrupt stomach function and generate harmful vapors:
Continuous Meals: Eating a new meal before the stomach has fully digested the previous food.
Gluttony: Consuming food well beyond the body’s baseline energetic needs.
Heavy Foods: Frequently ingesting dense, low-quality, or hard-to-digest foods.
Improper Combinations: Eating incompatible foods simultaneously, disrupting normal digestive breakdown.
By understanding the mechanical structure of the stomach and managing the factors that create internal vapors, classical medicine provides a clear road map to preventing chronic head, chest, and systemic disorders at their source.
